
Getting Your Thermal Response Just Right for SACMI and Sidel Machines
If you’re running SACMI or Sidel rotary blow molding machines, you know the drill. Everything moves fast. Like, really fast. You’ve only got a tiny window of time to get that preform up to the right temperature before it hits the stretch blow stage. If your lamps are sluggish and can’t keep up, you’re looking at a nightmare: uneven walls or that annoying pearlescence in the PET. Nobody wants to see that on a finished bottle. Why speed matters at start-up We don’t just throw generic lamps into these machines. We obsess over the filament mass and tungsten density. Why? Because we want lower thermal inertia. In plain English: the lamps hit their operating temperature faster. We tune them to the exact voltage and wattage your SACMI oven expects, so the heat goes exactly where the preform needs it, right when it needs it. The gear under the hood We use high-purity quartz glass. This lets the shortwave radiation punch right through the PET instead of getting trapped in the glass. For the SBO-compatible lamps, we’ve added specific coatings that bounce the heat back toward the preform. It’s a simple way to stop wasting energy. And because we know you don’t have time to mess around with wiring, we use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. You just pop them in and get back to work. A word of caution on the trade-offs Here’s the thing: it’s tempting to just crank up the wattage to make up for a slow machine. But be careful. High-wattage lamps put a lot of stress on your power supply and cooling fans. If you push them too hard, you’ll burn out the filaments way sooner than you should. You’ve got to find that sweet spot between the lamp’s output and your oven’s airflow, otherwise, you’ll end up overheating the preform neck.
