Here’s the struggle with thick-walled PET preforms: if you just blast them with heat, you end up scorching the outside while the core stays cold. It’s a frustrating balancing act, especially on high-speed Husky HyPET lines where you only have a split second to get it right. We solved this by rethinking how the heat actually moves. Instead of just “heating” the plastic, we tuned our IR lamps to shift the emission spectrum. Basically, we make sure the heat sinks deep into the plastic instead of just bouncing off the surface. The secret is in the waves. We lean heavily into short-wave infrared (SWIR). Long-wave heat is lazy—it just hangs out on the surface. Short-wave radiation, on the other hand, punches right through the PET polymer chain. To keep things moving fast, we use high wattage density. It creates a concentrated burst of heat that gets the preform ready in less time. It’s fast. Really fast. And that means your preforms spend less time in the oven and more time moving toward the blower. Built to take a beating. We use heavy-wall fused quartz because, let’s be honest, extreme thermal stress makes cheap tubes bow. You don’t want that. We also add specific coatings to make sure the wavelength hits the exact “sweet spot” that PET absorbs best. Plus, these are drop-in replacements.
