
Getting the Heat Right for Husky HyPET Systems
When you’re running Husky HyPET systems, every single millisecond matters. You’re moving fast. Too fast, sometimes. The real struggle is getting the preform to the right temperature without scorching the surface. Standard quartz tubes usually can’t cut it here. They just don’t penetrate the thick walls of heavy-gauge PET. You end up with uneven heating, and then you’re staring at bottles with wonky wall thickness. It’s a headache nobody needs. The trick is all in the penetration. We use halogen-filled quartz tubes that pump out high-intensity shortwave radiation. Why shortwave? Because it actually sinks deep into the PET polymer chain instead of just bouncing off the surface. We’ve tuned the wattage and voltage to fit the HyPET’s electrical setup perfectly. This pushes more heat into the core, meaning the center of the preform hits that critical glass transition temperature before the outer skin has a chance to overheat. It just fits. These aren’t some complicated modification. They’re drop-in replacements. We spent a lot of time on the connectors because if a lamp is off by even a few millimeters, you get cold spots. Simple, but deadly for your quality control. Plus, we use high-purity quartz glass. It stays straight and true, even when the heat gets intense, so you don’t have to worry about the tubes bowing. A quick heads-up on the trade-offs. Here’s the thing: more heat density means faster cycles, which is great. But it also puts a lot more pressure on your oven’s ventilation. If you switch to these lamps, do yourself a favor and check your cooling blowers. Make sure they’re clean.
