How to pick the right heater for your bathroom
Most heaters try to warm up the air, but that takes forever. Our infrared lamps are different. They go straight for the surfaces—including you. It’s that instant, cozy feeling the second you flip the switch. But if you pick the wrong wattage, you’re either freezing or baking. Getting the power right You’ve got to look at the size of your room and how high your ceilings are. If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a 250W to 400W lamp is usually plenty. Any more than that and the room turns into a sauna way too fast. For those bigger master baths (around 8m² to 12m²), you’ll want to bump it up to 600W or 800W. Here’s the thing: if you go too low, the lamp has to work overtime to keep you warm, which means it’ll probably burn out sooner. But if you go too high? The thermostat will keep clicking on and off every few seconds. That “short-cycling” is a great way to kill your relays. Dealing with steam and splashes Bathrooms are tough on electronics. Between the humidity and the occasional splash, things can get messy. That’s why we seal our tungsten filaments inside quartz envelopes. The infrared waves just cut right through the moisture in the air to hit your skin. Just a heads-up: high-wattage lamps get seriously hot. Make sure your fixture housing is actually rated for that heat. You don’t want your plastic or metal casing warping because the bulb is running too hot for the frame. Comfort vs. Raw Power Sure, a higher wattage gets you warm faster. But imagine putting an 800W lamp in a tiny closet. You’ll have one scorching “hot spot” right under the bulb, and everywhere else will still feel chilly. It’s not a great feeling. Instead, try using a few lower-wattage lamps spread across the ceiling. You get the same amount of total heat, but it feels like a warm hug rather than a heat lamp at a buffet. Much better.
